Which Power Pack Do I Need?

Which Power Pack Do I Need?

The Carbon Trekkers Reading Which Power Pack Do I Need? 2 minutes Next A New Breed of Solar Charger!

I suppose that's kind of like asking what kind of shoes you should put on in the morning...

It all depends on what your day looks like!

We know that not all adventures are the same and your gear should adapt to fit the journey at hand. When we created the Hot Pocket, we wanted you to have options! And when we designed Ember, we used the exact same technology, so you can always adapt to your adventures!

We created two power pack options for Ember—the Power Pack UL and Power Pack XL.

The UL is a smaller, lightweight option (approximately 9 ounces) that provides up to six hours of continuous heat at low power. It's more than enough to heat a weekend walkabout or keep you toasty during a frigid outdoor football game.

The XL doesn't weigh all that much more (approximately 14 ounces total), but it boosts your potential heating time to 10-12 hours so you can fend off the cold for even longer!

During the post-campaign survey ONLY, you'll be able to upgrade to the Power Pack XL for just $59!

Andy Shocked

Want to take advantage of our lightning fast charging tech? (keep reading)

Yes, you'll be able to add any of the FAST charging options you'd like in the upcoming survey!

Have questions about the Power Packs or Chargers? We have answers!

Go ahead and leave your questions and comments below and we'll get back to you as quick as we can or email us at customerservice@sierramadreresearch.com!

I have back through all the recent messages for Embers and have not been able to select a date or time to fill out the PCS for finalizing my order. I even read over these updates twice to see if I was missing a highlighted/underline link to direct me to a page to make a selection. Also, I previously asked about adding an additional 4 Embers to my order and told there would be no problem. However, I did not see that option when I watched the clip of how to fill out the PCS which only covered Embers actually supported. Which is correct? Also, where do I signup for Ember PCS?

Regarding chargers – how fast will something like the OnePlus Dash-charger charge the UL power pack?

https://www.oneplus.com/3t/dashcharge

I can fully charge my 3400 mAH OnePlus 6 in about an hour – does this mean that the 11.000 mAH UL Powerpack will take roughly three times as long?

Hello! Could you provide a link for where I can upgrade? And will we be able to purchase extra battery packs for long trips?

All Hot Pockets will come with a UL Battery Pack.
UL in it’s purest form will be 14.4v x 3000mah.

We have created the XL Battery Pack as an (+$40) upgrade in case those avid adventurers need double the battery life! The larger battery only weighs 5oz more than the UL battery pack and gives you twice the charge 🔋🔋
XL in it’s purest form will be 14.4v x 6000mah

If you do not wish to upgrade to the XL Battery Pack that is totally up to you! It is not necessary by any means. We just thought it would be nice to give you guys that surprise option 😊

Hii guys! So many great questions 😬🔋
I’ll try to answer them best I can.

We’re making two different batteries one will be the UL and the other the XL.

-UL in it’s purest form will be 14.4v x 3000mah
-XL in it’s purest form will be 14.4v x 6000mah

@Julyan
We will not be shipping the Hot Pocket without the battery packs. All Hot Pockets will be shipped with a UL battery unless upgraded to a XL.

@Steven
The power packs have 5 battery indicators dots that will help you determine the level of power!

@Steve Cavanaugh
The battery will carry through an airport using the same rules and regulations as the average portable battery. Most airports require devices larger than your cellular device to be placed in the checked bins for carry-on. The HP battery will apply to that rule meaning it will safely go through security as a carry-on :)

@Delia B Roberts
It would be super convenient if you could charge the Hot Pocket simply by stuffing your sleeping bag into the stuff sack, but unfortunately it does not work like that. You would need a portable battery or some power source. Luckily the Hot Pocket automatically comes with a UL Power Bank for your convenience!

@Jon
All of our Hot Pockets contain the same heat panels. No matter what size Hot Pocket you have, the UL battery will provide up to six hours of continuous heat at low power!

@Steve
The answer is yes! There will be an option to purchase multiple batteries during the Post Campaign Survey. We will start to send those out May 27-June 7 so be on the lookout!

People need to realize that there are Lithium Ion battery packs, and not your average USB battery pack. They are lighter and much more efficient. Now that being said, it would have been nice to know about these options a head of time.
Also, some answers to these questions would be nice also.

I don’t understand many of these comments. If you don’t want the product or just want to complain about it, why did you back it in the first place. And to say that the UL should be given to you for free if you upgrade to the XL is ridiculous – it still costs Sierra Marde money to make the UL. Do people not understand that backing a Kickstarter means you are funding a concept that is to go into development? You should be grateful Sierra Madre between now and when the Hot Pocket is shipped are continuing the refine the product to make it the best it can be for their customers. Sierra Madre, I hope you read this. You have my full support!

I agree with some of the other posts I’ve seen: the upgrade to the XL version should be free of charge for backers, or at least the UL battery should remain included…

WHAT!?! So, I would have to pay an ADDITIONAL $80 for two XL Battery Packs? It can be spun whichever way it’s being spun … however, I only see this additional amount as another form of scamming/greed; AND AFTER THE CAMPAIGN HAS ENDED, WHERE A BACKER DOESN’T HAVE THE OPTION OF JUST CANCELING THEIR SUPPORT, IF THE PROJECT DOESN’T WORK FOR THEM, OR APPEAL, TO THEM ANYMORE! Why are we paying more money when we are the ones that backed your creation … and raised more money than you were seeking, at that! Personally, I can just do without a hot pocket; I lived up to now without one. And, I love my mom and want to make her remaining days as comfortable for her, as possible; however, not at the expense of feeling like my pocketbook is being raided. I rather just receive an immediate refund, than spend any additional money; especially, for something that I feel should have just been, freely, included, as part of backing this Campaign! #myopinion

Is there a specific reason the power packs ports are USB-C and not a more standard type? I already own multiple power banks/packs that use common USB and it would be great if I could use them with the HP as well, and or plug the HP into larger power stations, solar generators, etc, that all still have the common USB ports.

So why can’t you make the power switch on the sack to begin with. Have it on a USB so that we can use any after market power pack. Because if we have to use just the specific power pack for it, now I have to carry two power packs one for the hot pocket and one for the rest of my electronics. I would personally prefer to carry one power pack into the backwoods instead of 2 separate ones

i think a lot of people would agree that backers should just get a choice of which battery they prefer, similar to the size of the stuff sack. that, or paying $40 should add the XL battery without giving up the UL. you can buy a 20kmAh battery for $40 or less, so i would say to offer this “opportunity” is a bit unscrupulous.

Can both power packs be purchased for a reasonable price as the smaller one can be good enough for many activities but the larger would be better for other activities.

How long does it take to fully charge the UL and XL packs via solar panels and outlet? Also, does the power pack have to be kept plugged into the HP for it to heat, or does it just charge and then unplug to heat?

Hello; As I understand it you can recharge the battery but stuffing your sleeping bag into the stuff sac correct? I plan to use this device in the back country and it is important that I can charge it without any other power source

any feedback on research into how hot pocket and power packs will go through airport security, especially international travel?
Will they go ok through security as carry-on, or do they need to be checked?
Would be nice to have on international flights when stuck against the wall or against exits.

Many have asked but I’m not seeing an answer. What is the capacity of each of the batteries? This could be the determining factor of whether the hot pocket can be brought on board aircraft when traveling.

Hi Pamela! No, when you upgrade to the XL it replaces your UL. That being said you will be able to add a second UL or XL if you’d like!

So… If I “upgrade” to an XL Battery, will I still also get the UL Battery that was originally included with my Pledge too? I do see a need for both, depending on my adventure.
