The biggest difference, besides the gear, is how comfortable hammock camping is. You may sleep better in your hammock then you do in your bed at home.
"It's really comfortable. I've had worse nights sleeping in my own bed at home," said Eddie Hyde about his first night sleeping in a Ninox Flatlay hammock.
First, you need a durable hammock made for camping. (These have been designed to withstand weather and outdoor use) Next, you need straps to hang your hammock. Finally, you will need a way to stay warm. A sleeping bag can work for your "top quilt" but you will want an under quilt on your hammock to avoid Cold Butt Syndrome. A bug net, rainfly, and gear stash are also needed unless they are already integrated into the system.
Find a sturdy pair of trees approximately 10-15 ft apart and at least 6in in diameter. Make sure to follow Leave No Trace principles. You will want your hammock to hang at least 18in off the ground and the straps at approximately a 30° angle.
No trees? No problem! Posts, poles, buildings, even rocks can be used to secure a hammock. If you don't want to chance it, a lightweight hammock stand is the best back up.
It's less of a question of "who" it is right for and more of a question of "which hammock system" is right for you!
"If you want to elevate your camping, come home to Sierra Madre," said Patrick from Utah, an outdoor enthusiast, and local mountain search and rescue volunteer who needs a restorative night's rest, protected from the elements when he is on rescue missions. He uses the Ninox Flatlay system to stay comfortable, dry, and bug-free whenever he is in the wild.
You should be able to wake up feeling rested and ready to tackle your next adventure. That’s why our founder, Richard Rhett, originally started Sierra Madre and our innovative line of camping hammocks and accessories that will have you ditching the dirt and sleeping (comfortably) in the stars.
Sierra Madre isn't just a revolution in camping, they are changing the hammock camping industry.
While other companies carry "hammock camping" products we are the only company to take this to push the limits of innovation, protection, and comfort in the wild. With Sierra Madre products, you don't just hammock camp, you air camp. Ditch the dirt and sleep in the stars and when you wake up you may just feel more rested then you do in your bed at home.
A long time advocate for the great outdoors and a believer in our company and mission, Sir Richard Branson invested in us when we appeared on Shark Tank. "I'm a huge lover of the great outdoors so excited to invest in @SMR_gear on @ABCSharkTank," said Branson on Twitter.
